Engineering Edge

Jamerson Goes 3D!

The first 3D learning lab in the county is here…

And everyone’s getting in on the action!

Pictured above, left to right:  Mrs. Parsons, Mrs. Jamerson, Mr. Parsons, Mrs. Moody, and Mrs. Wright enjoy a 3D show!

Spring Engineering Expo

Excitement spilled over into the night as 500+ gathered for the Engineering Expo…

The teachers could barely contain their enthusiasm.

Jammers rocked the house

The engineering play engaged…

Band and strings solos hypnotized…

And of course there was plenty of hands-on…

Spring Engineering Day

Let’s take a tour of Engineering Day activities…

Waterfront property, anyone?  These houses are built to last by our 1st grade engineers!

Plant a lima bean seed with 2nd grade…

Enjoy some freshly baked cookies from 3rd grade’s Solar Cookers!

How much mass will your aluminum boat hold?  Ask a 4th grade engineer…

Wire a house?  No problem for our 5th grade electrical engineers!

Solar Classroom Ribbon Cutting

Students, staff, parents, community members, and press gathered Tuesday for the official ribbon cutting of our Solar Classroom.

Mr. Parsons demonstrated skill and precision.

Many thanks to our special guests!

Representatives from Pinellas County Schools, Florida Solar Energy Center, Pinellas Education Foundation, Progress Energy, Energy Systems Group, PVI Solar, and let’s not forget Mrs. Jamerson joined to celebrate our newest outdoor classroom.

Another great Jamerson event to kick off Spring Engineering Day!

More on Engineering Day and the Spring Expo to come…

Fort De Soto

80+ fourth graders invaded Fort De Soto on Thursday.

They came in peace…

To explore

To learn…

History

Math

Native Plants

To find the intersection of the classroom and the real world.

Kennedy Space Center – The Overnight

The world’s largest rocket, the Saturn V, carried 12 American astronauts to the moon on 6 different Apollo missions from 1969-1972.  At 360 feet, it’s longer than a football field, and this is where we slept!

A VIP bus tour took us up close and personal to the launch pad…

And next to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB), the fourth largest building in the world by volume.  Just the stars on the American flag are the size of a basketball court!

The ‘Crawler’ carries the space shuttle to the launching pad.  At 12 million pounds, it moves at a speedy 1/2 mile per hour!

We all felt like real astronauts!

Kennedy Space Center – Day 1

99 Jamerson Trailblazers blasted off to Cape Canaveral on Wednesday morning!

The Astronaut Training Experience was amazing…

Mission control and orbiter teams worked together to (barely) land the shuttle during simulated missions…

We met Astronaut John Blaha!

Certain teachers got a little crazy…

Bet you can’t wait to see what happened on Day 2!

DLJ Lands 2 More Big Awards!

For the sixth consecutive year, we have been recognized by Magnet Schools of America as a School of Merit!

2012 Magnet School of Distinction

In addition, St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster has selected Jamerson as a 2012 Top Apple Award winner!

Way to go Jamerson students, families, and staff!  This is just another indication of the great things happening here every day.

USF Engineering Expo

A wave of blue covered the campus last Friday morning as more than 150 Jamerson students, teachers, and parents attended the University of South Florida’s 40th Annual Engineering Expo!

We visited shows and exhibits put on by college students and businesses…

And even hosted an exhibit of our own!

5000 spice drops and 8000 toothpicks turned into over 600 polyhedron!  Visitors age 5 to adult learned how and why civil engineers use a variety of shapes to design structures.
